St. Elizabeth Book Club

I joined the St. Elizabeth book club in September 2010.  Having never belonged to a book club before (even the mother/son and mother/daughter book clubs are ones that I started), I wasn't sure what to expect.  The group is held at our church and made up mostly of members from our church.  So, I started with Water for Elephants REALLY not knowing what kind of conversation this was going to be!  But it was wonderful and I've come to love these ladies.  We have a multigenerational group which leads to truly fascinating conversations!
One more funny story...we like to really mix up the genres and new fiction with old fiction and even some local authors but this past winter we all started feeling like our selections were getting too heavy so I suggested Withering Heights, a goofy light British cozy mystery with a slight poke of fun at Wuthering Heights (my alltime fave book ever) and the whole Gothic Novel genre (my passion!).  So, I made a point of stressing that it isn't Wuthering but Withering.  So, one lady went to the library and said, "Our book club is reading something that sounds like Wuthering Heights but it's 'Withering' instead of 'Wuthering'."  The librarian brought out a book, informing her that it was from the teen section, could that be right?  She thought - knowing me and my interest in young people's literature - must be, she thought and checked it out.  Well, it wasn't Wuthering Heights. But it also wasn't WIthering Heights. It was Withering Tights!!  Ha! Kinda makes me want to visit the teen section and see what Withering Tights is all about!
Unfortunately, the meeting times with this book club became a conflict in 2016 and I haven't been able to attend since then. But I still see these ladies and help out with their fall used book sale.
